How Is The Martingale System Played?

Let’s take a look at an example of the Martingale strategy. Let us assume that a player wants to use the Martingale system in roulette and chooses the simple “red” chance for his bet. The player is a beginner and slowly feels his way with a small bet of 2 euros.

In the first round it doesn’t work out with the profit, so he has to double his stake to four euros. It won’t work next time either, he has to double his stake to eight euros. Finally the player is lucky, the ball lands on “red” and he wins. The player is paid 16 euros, but he has bet 14 euros (2 + 4 + 8) – his net winnings are only two euros. After the win, the player starts his progression again with 2 euros – until the next win.

This system could be continued at will if it weren’t for the table limits or the financial limits of the players themselves. After all, who can bet any amount of money just to make up for their losses? In addition, you should always set your own limit before the game and stick to it – for this reason alone, the Martingale system fails in the long term.

It is the same with the table limits in online casinos, but also in stationary casinos. Even if you play at a table with a limit of 1,000 euros, this limit is reached after ten losing rounds with a starting bet of 10 euros.

Last but not least, there is the probability that the Martingale system throws a spanner in the works. Because the odds in a casino are always with the bank, regardless of the game. In roulette this is quite obvious, because there is also the 0 and sometimes even the 00, which quickly turn a 50-50 chance into a 48.65% chance.

Martingale system in blackjack

If you want to use the Martingale system in blackjack, it works exactly like in roulette: you double the stake after every lost hand that is won. After every win you start again with the original bet. It’s that simple, and so dangerous.

Martingale system in slots

The Martingale system can also be used with online slots in such a simple and risky manner: Place a stake, use the same stake as at the beginning after every win, double the stake after every loss.

The advantage of online games, especially slots, is that you can start with very small stakes. But don’t forget the exponential growth of the stakes, so the advantage is limited. However, the speed of the games has a disadvantage. While a round of roulette in a real casino can take several minutes, a round of blackjack is usually over in less than a minute. A round slots only lasts a few seconds. If you were to use the Martingale system here, you would have to change the bet manually after each round. This spoils the fun yourself very quickly.
